This mango has a long history in Delray Beach, Florida, where the original tree is believed to be several decades old. Its reputation for high fruit quality eventually drew the attention of Walter Zill, who propagated the cultivar and later named it Apricot.
The fruit are small and yellow, sometimes developing a light orange blush. Flesh texture is smooth, fiberless, and soft, with a strongly spiced Indian–West Indian flavor profile. The seed is monoembryonic.
Apricot is widely believed to be a seedling of Bombay (also known as Pairi or Raspuri) based on shared aromatic and flavor characteristics, though this parentage has not been formally confirmed. Compared to Bombay, it is noted for more consistent flowering under Florida conditions. In South Florida, Apricot ripens during the mid-season.
The tree exhibits vigorous growth with a dense, spreading canopy. Due to its flavor type and growth characteristics, Apricot is considered a suitable option for growers seeking a Bombay-style mango with improved adaptability in Florida and may also warrant evaluation in other mango-growing regions.
