Arka Neelkiran is a mango developed through India’s national breeding program as a cross between Neelum and Alphonso. The fruit are medium-sized, yellow, and range from round to elliptical in shape. The tree is notably slow-growing, exhibiting a dwarf habit with an open canopy.
The flesh is yellow, firm, and largely fiberless, surrounding a monoembryonic seed. Flavor is characteristic of the Indian/Alphonso class, combining balanced sweetness, subtle resin, and mild spice. Unlike Alphonso, Arka Neelkiran has not shown susceptibility to certain internal physiological issues.
Arka Neelkiran is a mid-season mango, typically maturing from late June through July. While the tree produces fruit reliably each year once established, it may be prone to fungal issues on flowers and small developing fruit in very humid climates, and it is generally not recommended for cooler, less tropical regions such as California.
