Ataulfo is a mango cultivar originating from Chiapas, Mexico, and has become one of the country’s most significant commercial varieties. It is also cultivated commercially in other parts of Latin America. The cultivar is believed to descend from the Manila group of mangos brought to Mexico from the Philippines.
Trees are vigorous with an upright growth habit and open canopy. They produce moderate to good yields of small, oblong, yellow fruit. The flesh is firm, completely fiberless, and develops a mild subacid flavor that sweetens as the fruit ripens, often accompanied by slight skin wrinkling.
Ataulfo demonstrates high resistance to mango bacterial black spot and post-harvest anthracnose. In South Florida, it is considered a mid-season mango, typically maturing from late June into July.
