Baptiste is a mango cultivar from Haiti, less widely known than Madame Francis but still commonly grown there. The fruit are oval, small to medium in size, and ripen to yellow before reaching full maturity, offering a relatively long shelf life. Flesh is very firm, fiber-free, and moderately juicy, containing a polyembryonic seed. Flavor is medium-sweet with resinous notes and, when less ripe, a distinctive “carrot-like” undertone.
Trees have a vertically oriented growth habit with moderate vigor. Baptiste is generally productive and reliable. While flowers can be highly susceptible to anthracnose in humid areas, the fruit demonstrates good resistance to bacterial black spot and post-harvest rot. In South Florida, Baptiste is a mid-season mango, typically ripening in July.
