Bizcochuelo is a mango cultivar from Cuba, primarily grown around Santiago de Cuba, with references to the variety dating back to the 19th century. It was highlighted by Fairchild Garden in 2016 during their “Mangos of Cuba” festival. Introduced to Florida in 2017 for evaluation.
The fruit are small, round, and yellow at maturity. Flesh is yellow with a modest amount of fiber and a mild flavor, somewhat similar to a very mild Pickering mango.
Trees are moderately vigorous with a vertical, dense canopy. Bizcochuelo is highly susceptible to diseases, including anthracnose, powdery mildew, and bacterial black spot, particularly in humid or interior regions.
In South Florida, Bizcochuelo is an early-season mango, typically ripening from late May through early July.
