Top Tier Mango Alert!
Carla is a mango from Gary Zill’s breeding program in Boynton Beach, Florida (planting #C-12), released in 2016. It is a Zill-80 seedling, with ‘Gary’ speculated as the pollinating parent.
Fruit are medium to large, ripening mid-to-late season, typically July through August. Flesh is yellow, fiberless, and has a complex, classic-subacid flavor comparable to its siblings ‘Fruit Punch’ and 36-8. The seed is large and monoembryonic. Fruit may ripen unevenly on the tree and is often harvested mature green and ripened off the tree.
Trees are vigorous with vertical, open canopies and produce consistently once established. Carla is positioned as a late-season alternative to Kent, offering strong flavor and fewer disease concerns.
