Cotton Candy is a mango from Gary Zill’s breeding program in Boynton Beach, Florida, developed as a Keitt seedling that may have been pollinated by ‘Gary’. It is recognized for its exceptionally sweet and robust flavor, falling within the classic mango group, with intensity and sweetness that surpass many other varieties. Flesh is yellow, fiberless, and contains a polyembryonic seed. The fruit can occasionally develop internal breakdown or jelly seed, though this does not significantly affect its quality.
Released in 2016, Cotton Candy was planted in Florida in 2017 for evaluation as a late-season alternative to Keitt. Trees are moderately to very vigorous, with vertical, open canopies, and have shown consistent production. The cultivar is likely moderately susceptible to bacterial black spot, though possibly less so than its parent Keitt.
In Florida, Cotton Candy is a late-season mango, generally ripening from July through August, providing a reliable option for extending the harvest window beyond Kent and other mid-season varieties.
