Often spelled Dusheri or Daseri, this mango originates from northern India, where it is highly regarded and grown extensively on a commercial scale. It is also commercially cultivated in Pakistan.
Dasheri is considered one of the finest mangoes from northern India and is known for a distinctive citrus-forward flavor. The taste is often compared to the Burmese Po Pyu Kalay (commonly known as Lemon Meringue), suggesting a possible shared lineage or common ancestry. The fruit is oblong in shape and ripens to a yellow exterior.
In Central Florida, Dasheri has shown variable performance, with reports of inconsistent production and a tendency toward smaller fruit size. Despite this, eating quality remains excellent, with flavor being the standout trait.
The variety is considered better suited to regions with cooler or more defined winters, where it may have improved flowering and production potential, including parts of central and west-coast Florida as well as Southern California.
