Diamond is a mango from Gary Zill's breeding program in Boynton Beach, FL, selected as a Julie seedling, with Nam Doc Mai possibly as its pollen parent (original planting number HW-14). The fruit was initially called "Fairchild Diamond" but later shortened to "Diamond," and should not be confused with the Diamond mango from Myanmar (Sein Ta Lone / Guava Mango).
The fruit is oblong, yellow at maturity, and has a distinctive flavor that some describe as vegetable-like. Dr. Richard Campbell claims the diamond variety is said to taste of Durian. The flesh is fiberless and contains a monoembryonic seed.
The tree grows slowly, with a very compact, dense canopy, and has moderate production. Diamond is a mid-season mango in Florida, typically ripening from late June through July.
