Falan is a mango from Thailand, also known locally as Fralan, Fah Lan, or Falang. It is sometimes called the “Thunder mango” because fully ripe fruit can split unexpectedly after heavy rain.
The fruit is small to medium, slender and oblong, with green skin that may develop a hint of yellow when mature. The flesh is firm, fiberless, and crisp when young, becoming softer and sweeter as it ripens. It has a mild, balanced sweetness that works well both raw and fully ripe, making it versatile for eating fresh, in salads, or for savory preparations.
The trees are slow to moderately vigorous, often remaining compact and manageable, ideal for home gardens or limited-space plantings. Falan shows good resistance to disease and adapts well to tropical and subtropical climates. It is a mid-season variety, typically ripening from June through August.
The seed is polyembryonic, and the combination of crisp texture, sweet flavor, and manageable tree size makes Falan a standout choice for backyard growers or specialty fruit collectors.
