Fruit Punch is a Zill-80 seedling from Gary Zill’s breeding program in Boynton Beach, FL (planting #M-23). The fruit is medium-sized, oval, and develops a bright red blush at maturity. The flesh is yellow, very firm, and fiberless, containing a monoembryonic seed. Flavor falls within the classic acidic/subacid group, showing a narrow peak window when it is at its best—at that time, the flavor is exceptionally vibrant, though outside that window it can be more average.
The tree has a vertical, open canopy with moderate vigor and is a reliable producer. Fruit are moderately susceptible to bacterial black spot and rot. This is an early-season variety, ripening from late May through June.
