Gold Nugget was a patented Florida mango selected in the 1980s by Edward Mitchell in Miami, FL. Likely a Kent seedling, it produces medium-sized, oval fruit that ripen to a yellow-orange color. The firm, orange flesh has a mild yet appealing classic flavor and contains a monoembryonic seed.
Trees are low-vigorous with a spreading habit, bearing fruit consistently and heavily. Gold Nugget shows strong resistance to bacterial black spot and rot, though the fruit can develop anthracnose at maturity, affecting appearance more than quality. The variety ripens late in the season, from late July through August, aligning with the Kent harvest window.
The patent expired in 2010.
