Golden Lippens is a seedling of the Lippens mango, selected by Peter and Irene Lippens of Miami, FL. The seed was planted in 1942, with the first fruit produced in 1951. Though promoted in the 1950s by the Florida Mango Forum for its production traits, it never became a widely planted variety.
The trees are moderately vigorous with vertical-oriented canopies and are reliable producers, often yielding heavy crops.
The fruit are medium-to-large, oval-oblong, and turn light yellow at maturity. The flesh is fiber-light with a mild, pleasant flavor reminiscent of Valencia Pride. The seed is monoembryonic.
Golden Lippens is a mid-season variety, ripening from July to August. It has good resistance to powdery mildew and anthracnose, though it is moderately prone to skin cracking and rot.
