Harvest Moon is an Edward seedling from Gary Zill’s breeding program in Boynton Beach, FL (planting number 4-20), likely crossed with Carrie or Val-Carrie. The fruit are very large, sometimes exceeding 3 pounds, round, and Kent-like in shape.
The skin turns light orange at maturity, occasionally showing red blush. The flesh is firm, sweet, and falls into the classic-acidic flavor group with subtle plum notes. The fruit have been resistant to anthracnose and largely free from bacterial black spot, though splitting on the tree before maturity can occur. The seed is large and monoembryonic.
The trees are vigorous, upright growers with dense canopies. Harvest Moon has a reputation for dropping some of its fruit, but production is generally acceptable given the large fruit size.
