Hatcher is a hybrid of Haden and Brooks, originally planted by John Hatcher in Lantana, FL in the 1930s. The fruit is large and round, often exceeding 2 pounds, and develops a soft pastel red blush. The flesh is fiberless with a classic flavor, featuring peach and stone fruit notes, and contains a monoembryonic seed.
The trees are vigorous with vertical, open canopies and tend to bear alternately, producing heavily in "on" years. Hatcher is highly susceptible to mango bacterial black spot and associated rot fungi, making it a less reliable choice for southeast Florida.
