Herbie is a mango selected by Jenny and David Burd of Naples, FL, with unknown parentage.
The fruit are small to medium, ovoid-oblong, sometimes with slightly bumpy skin, and develop attractive red highlights over a yellow base. The flesh is soft, fiberless, and flavorful, belonging to the Indochinese group. Trees begin fruiting a few years after planting and produce consistently once established. The fruit have shown strong resistance to both anthracnose and bacterial black spot.
The trees are vigorous growers with a spreading, open canopy. Herbie is a mid-season variety, typically ripening in July. It is well-suited for backyard cultivation in humid areas of Florida where disease pressure can affect more sensitive varieties.
