Itamaraca is a rare mango from a Brazilian island, with a few different “iterations” reported—most locals aren’t familiar with it, though some know it under other names.
The fruit is very small, round, and slightly compressed, sometimes flying-saucer shaped. At maturity, the skin turns from green to show hints of yellow and red blush. The flesh is fiberless and rich, falling into the Indian/Alphonso flavor class, similar to Kesar. The seed is tiny, thin, and polyembryonic.
Trees have a compact, dwarfish, spreading growth habit but produce reliably despite the small fruit size. Itamaraca is an early-to-midseason mango with an extended harvest period and shows strong disease resistance.
