Top Tier Mango Alert
Kesar is a well-known mango from southern India, particularly popular in Gujarat, and grown commercially throughout the region. It is highly regarded for its rich, sweet flavor, often compared to Alphonso, though distinct in its aromatic spice and terpene notes.
The fruit are small-to-medium, ovoid-oblong, turning yellow with occasional pink-red blush at maturity. The flesh is fiberless, very sweet, and intensely flavorful. The seed is monoembryonic.
Trees are moderate in vigor with a spreading, manageable canopy. In Florida, Kesar performs well, flowering in mid-season and ripening from late June through July. The variety shows some tolerance to anthracnose, though the flowers can be susceptible to powdery mildew.
