Lemon Meringue (originally Po Pyu Kalay) was introduced to Florida from Myanmar by Maurice Kong and later named by Gary Zill.
The fruit are small, oval-oblong, and yellow, with pale yellow, fiberless flesh. The flavor is rich and sweet, dominated by citrus notes. The seed is small and polyembryonic. Fruit quality can be affected by heavy rains, which may dilute the flavor.
Trees are vigorous, upright growers with dense foliage and produce reliably. They are generally resistant to anthracnose, though the trees can attract pests and occasionally experience dieback. The fruit are moderately susceptible to bacterial black spot, but losses tend to be manageable.
Lemon Meringue is an early-season mango, typically ripening from May through July, making it a good option for growers seeking a citrus-flavored early mango in humid climates.
