Little Gem is a mango selection from the breeding program of Gary Zill (planting #29-26), a seedling of Julie, with the possible pollen parent being Gary.
The fruit is small, round, and turns orange at maturity, occasionally showing a reddish blush. It has thick skin and firm, fiber-free flesh, offering a medium-bodied Indian/West Indian–style flavor. The fruit demonstrates excellent disease resistance, and the monoembryonic seed is small, making it well-suited as rootstock.
Trees are compact, low-to-moderately vigorous, with dense canopies. They are heavy producers of late-season fruit, typically ripening from late July through August. Little Gem stands out among newer hybrids for productivity, flavor, and disease resistance, making it an excellent option for backyard planting in South Florida as well as commercial cultivation.
Flavor: Indian/West Indian
