The Mesk mango is an Egyptian cultivar celebrated for its aromatic, fiberless flesh and striking visual appeal. Named after the Arabic word for “musk,” it reflects the rich heritage of Egyptian mango cultivation along the Nile, where heat and fertile soils create unique growing conditions.
The fruit begins green and transforms to vibrant purple and red at maturity, signaling the development of its complex flavor—a blend of tropical sweetness with subtle spice, reminiscent of the Kesar mango yet distinctly Egyptian. The flesh is fully fiberless, intensely fragrant, and delivers a rich, indulgent eating experience.
Mesk trees are vigorous, with upright growth and dense canopies that protect fruit, and the variety shows good disease resistance. It ripens mid-season, typically from late June through July. While the fruit is highly prized for its flavor and aroma, it has a short shelf life and softens quickly, making careful harvest essential. Mesk remains a regional specialty, valued for its exceptional quality and sensory appeal.
