Originating in Bradenton, Florida, the Pettigrew is an older cultivar prized for its large, flavorful fruits. While it typically produces a smaller number of fruits per tree and can be somewhat prone to bruising, its taste is what sets it apart. The flesh delivers a remarkably rich, coconut-like flavor that makes Pettigrew unmistakable among mango varieties. Beyond its culinary appeal, Pettigrew has played an important role in modern mango breeding, serving as a paternal grandparent for several newer cultivars developed through the Zill breeding program.
