Muscadine grapes are native to the Southeastern United States and belong to the species Vitis rotundifolia, a species distinctly separate from the European and American grape varieties used in most commercial wine and table grape production. Purple muscadine is the most widely recognized form of the species, producing dark purple to nearly black fruit with thick skins, a musky aroma, and a sweet flavor that varies in intensity depending on the specific cultivar. Muscadine vines have a natural resistance to Pierce's disease, downy mildew, and many other fungal and bacterial issues that limit grape production in hot, humid climates, making them uniquely well adapted to the American South. They are productive in USDA hardiness zones 7 through 10, prefer full sun and well-drained soil, and are known for their long productive lifespan compared to other grape species. Each order includes 3 freshly harvested live cuttings individually wrapped in grafting tape to retain moisture and protect the cambium during shipping. Printed care and propagation instructions are included with every order.
