Selected in South Florida, Rosigold has gained widespread recognition thanks to its promotion through Fairchild Tropical Garden’s fruit program. A 2005 USDA pedigree study suggests it is likely a descendant of the Hawaiian ‘Ono’ mango, which is reflected in some of its physical traits.

Rosigold is prized for its early and prolific fruiting, often producing ripe fruit as early as March—making it one of the first mangos of the season in Florida. The fruit is oblong, turning bright yellow with a light red or pink blush on sun-exposed areas. The flesh is yellow, moderately firm, completely fiberless, and separates cleanly from the seed, which is polyembryonic. Flavor falls within the classic group, highlighted by pleasant stone fruit and subtle peach notes. Later-season fruit is often richer in flavor, but the early spring crop is highly prized for its timing when few other mangos are available.

Trees are slow-growing with a spreading habit and moderately dense canopy, making them manageable for backyard settings or limited-space plantings. Flowers and young fruit are highly susceptible to anthracnose, particularly during humid conditions, so Rosigold performs best in coastal areas where spring blooms are less likely to suffer fungal damage.
