Shamsul Asamar is a mango from India regarded as a rare, possibly endangered cultivar dating back to the Nizam era. While never widely planted, it has long been admired for its exceptional eating quality, and limited efforts have been made in India to preserve it despite the dominance of more commercially favored varieties.
The fruit are small to medium in size, ovate in shape, and turn yellow at maturity. The flesh is yellow, completely fiberless, and notable for its unusual flavor profile. Unlike most Indian mangoes, Shamsul Asamar displays characteristics closer to an Indochinese-type flavor, giving it a distinctive taste that sets it apart from traditional Indian cultivars. The seed is monoembryonic.
Trees are vigorous growers with dense foliage and a strong structure, suggesting long-term durability once established. Fruiting appears to occur after a longer juvenile phase compared to many modern selections.
