Sonpari (sometimes written as Son Pari) is an Indian mango developed through India’s national mango breeding program in Paria, Gujarat. It is a deliberate hybrid between Banganapalli (Baneshan) and Alphonso, created to improve disease resistance, productivity, and overall reliability while preserving elite Indian mango flavor. The cultivar was introduced to Florida in the early 2000s through the efforts of Gary Zill, where it has shown strong performance.
The fruit are medium-sized with a round to ovate shape, ripening to a pale yellow color and occasionally developing a light pink blush near the apex. The flesh is yellow, medium-firm, completely fiberless, and contains a monoembryonic seed. Sonpari is especially notable for its rich and layered flavor profile—intensely sweet with pronounced spice notes—firmly placing it in the Indian/Alphonso flavor class. Soluble solids (Brix) readings frequently reach into the low 20s, reflecting its high sugar content.
Trees exhibit moderate vigor with a spreading, manageable canopy and display good resistance to anthracnose. While not immune, Sonpari has shown only moderate susceptibility to bacterial black spot under Florida conditions.
Sonpari is a mid-season mango in Florida, typically ripening from late June through July.
