Sturrock is a Florida-bred mango developed in West Palm Beach by David Sturrock as part of his early hybridization work. It is a deliberate cross between Haden and Duncan, two important Florida cultivars of the era, and reflects the classic mango breeding goals of the time—improving eating quality while maintaining strong tree characteristics.
Although never widely commercialized, Sturrock holds historical importance due to its origin and its creator. David Sturrock was a key figure in early Florida mango development and is also known for formally naming the Edward mango, one of the most influential cultivars in Florida mango history.
Sturrock remains primarily of historical and genetic interest, representing an early chapter in Florida’s structured mango breeding efforts.
