There are two distinct mango cultivars known as Sunset in Florida. One originates from Merritt Island, while the selection described here is the Frank Adams Sunset from Bokeelia on Pine Island.

Frank Adams Sunset is believed, based on pedigree analysis, to be a cross between Haden and Amini. It was documented by the Florida Mango Forum in the 1950s and was planted at the Tropical Research Center in Homestead during the 1940s. The cultivar has persisted within the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden collection, preserving its historical significance among early Florida mangos.

The fruit are small and oval-shaped, ripening to a yellow-orange color. Flesh is yellow, firm, completely fiberless, and contains a monoembryonic seed. The flavor falls within the classic Florida group—richly sweet with subtle melon-like undertones that add depth without overpowering.

Trees exhibit moderate vigor with an upright structure and open canopy, and the cultivar has long been regarded as a dependable producer. Growth tends to be measured rather than aggressive, but fruiting has proven consistent.

In Florida, Frank Adams Sunset is considered an early-season mango, typically ripening from June through July.
