Super Julie is a mango selection from the breeding program of Gary Zill in Boynton Beach, Florida, originating as a seedling of Julie (planting #J-12). The cultivar was initially referred to as Fairchild Ruby by Richard Campbell, but that name was later abandoned to avoid confusion with existing varieties named Fairchild and Ruby. It was ultimately released under the name Super Julie, a far more fitting title given its quality.
The fruit are small to medium in size, oval in shape, and develop striking red coloration at maturity over a light green to yellow background. Flesh texture is very soft and completely fiberless, with a deep orange interior and a monoembryonic seed. Flavor quality is exceptional, falling squarely in the Indian-Alphonso group. It delivers intense sweetness with pronounced spice notes and a dessert-like richness, often registering brix readings in the low-to-mid 20s. The flavor profile bridges Julie and Carrie, while surpassing both in sweetness and depth.
Trees are extremely vigorous, forming a dense, spreading canopy. Flowering is reliable and powdery mildew tolerance appears good, with above-average resistance to anthracnose allowing fruiting even in humid conditions. However, the fruit are notably susceptible to mango bacterial black spot, and crop losses can be significant in some seasons.
