Top Tier Mango Alert!!!

Sweet Tart is a standout selection from Gary Zill’s breeding program in Boynton Beach, Florida, originating as a seedling of Zill Indochinese (ZINC) under planting number C-1. It has earned a reputation as one of the most intense and distinctive modern Florida mangos.

The fruit are small, ripening to a clean yellow color, with an oval-oblong shape reminiscent of Glenn. The flesh is orange, completely fiberless, and medium-firm, enclosing a polyembryonic seed with a relatively low flesh-to-seed ratio.

Flavor is where Sweet Tart truly separates itself. It delivers an explosive balance of sharp acidity and deep sweetness, often described as candy-like. Early in ripening, the tart component dominates with a mouth-watering punch; as the fruit softens, sweetness intensifies and the profile shifts toward a rich, syrupy depth similar to cola or caramelized sugar. This dynamic flavor progression has made Sweet Tart a favorite among experienced mango enthusiasts.

Trees are vigorous with a somewhat upright growth habit and show excellent resistance to anthracnose at both flowering and fruiting stages. Flowering can be inconsistent in South Florida, especially on younger trees during mild winters, but when blooms occur, fruit set is typically heavy and thinning may be beneficial to improve fruit size. Fruit splitting and uneven ripening can occur, particularly in interior locations. Performance is generally expected to improve in slightly cooler or drier climates such as west or central Florida and Southern California.

Sweet Tart has also demonstrated strong resistance to mango bacterial black spot, an important trait among late-season cultivars.

Seasonally, Sweet Tart is a mid-season mango, typically ripening from July through August.
