Taralay is a selection from Gary Zill’s breeding program in Boynton Beach, Florida, originating as a Julie seedling with Zill Indochinese suspected as the pollen parent. It carried the original planting number 34-20.
The variety produces small to medium-sized yellow fruit with fiberless flesh. Flavor falls on the milder end of the spectrum, often compared to Duncan, though fruit quality can be noticeably better in favorable seasons.
Trees have shown a reputation for good productivity once established, though they can be slow to initiate flowering, particularly as young trees. Growth habit appears manageable, without extreme vigor.
Taralay remains an under-the-radar selection, valued more for reliability and consistency potential than for intense flavor complexity.
