Toledo is a mango from Cuba, where it has long been grown from seed thanks to its polyembryonic nature. It is a very traditional backyard mango in its home country rather than a fruit selected for size or commercial appeal.
The fruit are very small, round to ovate, and ripen to yellow with only a faint hint of pink near the stem. Flesh quantity is limited, and the texture is firm and noticeably fibrous. Flavor falls squarely in the classic mango group, lightly sweet and simple rather than rich or complex.
Trees are naturally dwarf and slow growing, making them extremely easy to manage in limited space. This growth habit is one of Toledo’s strongest traits.
In south Florida, Toledo ripens mid-season, typically from late June through July. Disease resistance is only moderate, as the variety can be susceptible to both anthracnose and bacterial black spot under pressure.
