Tong Dam is a mango from Thailand, with a name that translates to “Black Gold.” It is a distinctive Thai cultivar valued for flavor rather than appearance.
The fruit typically remains green at maturity, which can make ripeness hard to judge, but the interior tells a different story. The flesh is deep yellow to orange, completely fiberless, and notably rich and sweet. While clearly Thai in character, the flavor shows more depth and complexity than many standard Thai mangoes, moving beyond simple honeyed sweetness into a fuller, more rounded profile.
Trees appear moderately vigorous and may require management when grown alongside more aggressive cultivars, but once established, Tong Dam stands out primarily for its eating quality rather than external color.
