Seacrest is an Edward seedling developed in the breeding program of Gary Zill in Boynton Beach, Florida (planting #40-36), with Gary believed to be the pollen parent. The variety was named after Seacrest Boulevard, which runs between Lantana and Delray Beach. It is also propagated under the name Triplesec, a nod to its pronounced citrus-forward flavor profile. The seed is monoembryonic.
The fruit are medium in size, ovate in shape, and turn yellow at maturity. Flesh is completely fiberless, rich, and sweet, with clear Gary-type citrus notes layered with light spice. One of Seacrest’s standout traits is its excellent shelf life, as the fruit holds quality longer than most mangos without quickly becoming overripe.
Trees are highly vigorous with a spreading, dense canopy. They show strong resistance to anthracnose and excellent resistance to mango bacterial black spot. Flowers, however, are quite prone to powdery mildew. Younger trees often produce a high proportion of male flowers, which can limit early fruit set, but this tends to improve as the trees mature, leading to much stronger production over time.
Seacrest is a promising citrus-leaning mango with strong disease resistance, excellent keeping quality, and increasing productivity as trees age.
