USDA Taymour is a Florida mango selection that originated from the USDA mango breeding and evaluation program in South Florida, developed during the mid-20th century when many cultivars were being studied for adaptability, production, and disease resistance. It is considered a classic Florida-type mango, selected more for reliability and horticultural traits than for extreme or exotic flavor.

The fruit is medium-sized, typically oval to ovate in shape, and ripens to a yellow background color that may develop a light orange or red blush with sun exposure. The flesh is yellow, firm, and nearly fiberless, containing a monoembryonic seed. Eating quality is good, with a mild, balanced classic mango flavor—pleasant and sweet, but not overly intense or resinous.

Trees are moderately vigorous with a spreading growth habit and manageable canopy. Taymour has been noted for consistent flowering and dependable fruit set, traits that made it useful in USDA trials. Disease resistance is considered average to good by older Florida standards, though it has not stood out in modern plantings where newer cultivars offer stronger resistance to bacterial black spot.

USDA Taymour ripens mid-season in Florida, generally from late June through July. While it never achieved widespread commercial or backyard popularity, it remains an interesting historical USDA selection, representative of an era focused on stable production and traditional Florida mango flavor.
