Vallenato is a mango originating from Valledupar, Colombia, where it was originally known as “Manzano.” It was introduced to Florida in 1991 by Carl Campbell and later gained wider recognition in the United States after being selected multiple times as a Curator’s Choice mango by Fairchild Tropical Garden.

The fruit are small and oval, ripening to a striking crimson red blush over a yellow background. The flesh is yellow, firm, and moderately fibrous, containing a polyembryonic seed. Flavor falls into the classic Florida-style profile, mild and sweet, and is often compared to Irwin in overall eating quality.

Trees are vigorous and spreading, forming an open canopy and showing good resistance to anthracnose. Productivity is typically strong, making Vallenato a reliable bearer despite its smaller fruit size.

In Florida, Vallenato is considered an early-season mango, with fruit maturing from June through July.
