Wise is a Florida mango selection made by David Burd and Jenny Burd of Naples.
The fruit are large and round, often irregular in appearance, and mature to a yellow-green color. Flesh is very firm and yellow, with only minimal fiber, surrounding a monoembryonic seed. Flavor falls squarely in the classic Florida category and can be quite good in drier conditions, drawing comparisons to Beverly in favorable years.
Trees are vigorous, with a vertical growth habit and open canopy, and are capable of setting heavy crops. However, the fruit show high susceptibility to mango bacterial black spot and rot fungi, which can result in significant crop loss in disease-prone environments.
Wise is a mid-to-late season mango, typically ripening from July through August.
