Young is a Florida mango developed in the 1960s by David Sturrock in West Palm Beach. It originated from his breeding work as Edward × Kent #14, with Edward as the seed parent and Kent as the pollen parent. Sturrock considered the selection strong enough to patent, making Young one of the relatively few patented mango cultivars.

Years later, some trees were mistakenly propagated and sold under the name “Tebow” by a Homestead nursery. Trees carrying that label are, in fact, the Young mango.

The fruit closely resemble Kent in appearance: round to slightly oval, medium to large in size, and yellow at maturity with a pink blush concentrated near the stem end when sun-exposed. Flesh is firm, fiberless, and yellow, with a small monoembryonic seed. The flavor falls into the classic Florida mango group, mild and delicate, often compared to a light mixed-fruit juice rather than an intense or resinous profile.

Trees show moderate vigor with a spreading, open canopy. Flowering and fruit set are strong, and production can be heavy under favorable conditions. Anthracnose resistance is good, while susceptibility to rotting fungi exists but is notably less severe than Kent. Issues with bacterial black spot have not been prominent.

Young is a mid-season mango in Florida, typically ripening from July through August.
