M-4 is a late-season mango selection from the breeding program of Gary Zill in Boynton Beach, Florida. It originated as a ‘Keitt’ seedling, with ‘Gary’ considered the most likely pollen parent based on flavor and growth traits.
The fruit is round and medium-sized, with light-colored, soft, fiberless flesh and a small polyembryonic seed. Its eating quality is the defining feature: a rich, coconut-forward flavor that places it squarely in the coconut flavor group and sets it apart from most late-season mangos.
Trees show moderate vigor with a spreading growth habit and have demonstrated strong, reliable performance over multiple seasons. Both yield and fruit quality have been consistently good, giving M-4 a solid reputation among newer hybrids.
M-4 is considered a very late-season mango, typically ripening from August through September, making it a valuable option for extending the mango season in South Florida.
