O-29 is a mango selection from the breeding program of Gary Zill in Boynton Beach, Florida. Its exact parentage was never recorded.
Early in its life, O-29 showed a tendency to produce an excess of male flowers, which limited fruit set. By 2019 it began producing fruit, revealing a strong physical and flavor resemblance to Haden, though with a more pronounced orange-toned skin color. Both eating quality and productivity improved noticeably by 2020, and the tree has continued to fruit annually since then.
The fruit has firm, non-fibrous flesh and a monoembryonic seed. Flavor falls squarely in the classic Florida mango group, reminiscent of traditional Haden-type mangos. One noted drawback is a tendency for the fruit to develop a large anthracnose spot near the top of the skin, which can affect appearance.
The tree shows moderate vigor with a spreading growth habit. O-29 is considered a mid-season mango, typically ripening from late June into July in South Florida.
